Sky Watch Friday!

little buddy

Friday (July 11th) is my birthday. I'll be working. I like my work, but honestly, I'd rather take the day off, go fishing, take pictures, and hang out in the blogosphere.

.

I took S2 to work with me on Wednesday. I let him stuff envelopes and do some collating for filing. He liked being with Dad at the office. Afterwards, we went fishing with a close pal and his two little kids. I had a really cool, new lure that I wanted to try out. When we arrived to the fishing spot, I prepped S2's line and set him up with a softgel minnow on a weedless hook. Sure, that takes a little longer than the prefab lures, but I wanted to increase his chances of catching something. After his pole was ready, I cast it once. Bang, bang! The bluegills immediately nipped at the tail a few times, but none got hooked yet. I handed S2 his rod and turned to get my own stuff ready.

.

I've bored you with enough details. If you're still reading, the long story short is that when I was FINALLY ready, I cast my own line, and that fancy lure kept going, and going... The line had been severed, and now my lure was stranded, way in the middle of this pond!

.

Fortunately, it was a floater, and I fished it back with a couple of criss-crossing casts. (Say that ten times real fast.) Whew!

.

Anyhoo, it was a beautiful night, and when we got home, S2 raved about what a great day it had been.

.

.

Update: Hey, guess what... I'm 50. That's not what my birth certificate says, but the folks at the office refuse to accept my real age of 43, and decided that I am 50 instead. (Or 51, depending on who you ask.)

Once upon a time there was this great and fantastic group of people who blogged and photographed … with a click, click here, a snap, snap there, all of them had a week to look upon the sky … day and night, by dusk or dawn, sunrise or sunset … and always there where great and fantastic photos to be seen when SKY WATCH was opened …

I am one of those proud sky watchers and I really enjoy each and every one of the photos you show us. I really think you are a first class sky watcher!

  16. Father and son bonding - nothing like it! Glad you enjoyed yourself, and you got a great shot to boot. I love how the rod is out of focus, but discernible enough to be part of the foreground. Clever photography. Nicely done.

  26. I am not going to let 50 depress me. I am going to look at it as I am just one day older than I was the day before and then think...PRAISE GOD I MADE IT TO 50.
I do not want a party so our family, (hubby, 2 daughters, their hubby's & our grandson and me of course) are going on a family trip. Not sure where as of yet. I just want to be with my family, the ones I love the most.

Happy birthday! It also happens to be my son's birthday as well...he's quite a bit younger than 50...oh, I mean 43, of course.

  28. There's not a lot of difference between 50 (or 51) and 43. Just a few extra hours, days, months, and a whole lot of livin' experience. And what does it matter anyway? it's just another number. I see I missed the great day, so I'll have to wish you a belated HB, hope you had a great time, and there will be many more!
