Merry Christmas Y’all! I was wondering if anyone might like to share blogger tech tips as a present to each other. For example, I picked up a book I want to read this weekend, so I’ll make a link for Blessed Are the Uncool and anyone who wants to see more about it can click on the link to Amazon.com. The way you create a link is:

(I will have to substitute the chevrons or arrows (above the comma and period on your keyboard) with [ and ], ‘cause the chevrons won’t show on this page.)

[a href=Type URL here]Type TEXT here[/a]

So if you have any nifty gimmicks that you’d like to share, I’m sure folks would appreciate being able to jazz up their blahs—I mean blogs.

Feliz Navidad!

If I knew any fancy tricks, I'd post one! But I don't. So I'll keep checking back and see if I can learn any! My blog definitely needs some fancy tricks...

Gimmicks.... hmmm.... I'm not much of a gimmick gal.

I can tell you, though, that I discovered (to my horror!) that those little things we add to our sidebars (blogring click things) mess up everything in certain browsers. I had no idea until I went to work on a different computer and found that my WHOLE sidebar area had disappeared. Anyway, the blogrings have been banished to the footer area.

That is so weird to log in at a different computer and find that you’re looking at something different than the look you worked hard to achieve.

Llama momma, one of the very few sites I connect to on my sidebar is TheSuburbanChristian. This guy amazes me with how he writes. He does not use pictures (I don’t know if that’s his rule or just how it works out). You won’t find him compromising grammar by inappropriately italicizing, emboldening, CAPITALIZING, streeeeetching his words or throwing elipses all over the place… And then there are people like me. I communicate at a lower, much lower level, using gimmicks as much as I can. I’m cheap; I know.

Anyway, I hope you find something fun here.

What on earth is a chevron? Isn't that a car?

How did the Sunday School comment work out for ya??

L.L. Barkat said...

A chevron is part of the constellation Ursa Major.

Just my opinion on the matter.

P.S.

I've been meaning to talk to you about the dearth of links to wonderful blogs over in your very-nicely-arranged sidebar there.

Ahem. :)

(peering over eyeglasses like a snooty librarian)
Okay class, I want to draw your attention to your keyboard. Notice that if you hold shift and strike the comma or period, you get a left or right “arrow.” Those “arrows” are called chevrons.
(adjusting eyeglasses)
Don’t make me separate you two.

Did someone say “ahem?” Ah, yes. About that… Please forgive me for the Teflon response, but I have been struggling with what I want to do on the sidebar. That would probably be a good conversation to come back to later.

I think you should put me and "for now" over there, separated by "even so," surrounded by a host of chevron chaperones.

On the other hand, I will be happy to stay here at the back of the class... passing notes and drawing caricatures of the teacher and altogether being a challenge for the most talented disciplinarian. :)

Even So... said...

use "chevron" i "chevron" then whatever your text is then "chevron" /i "chevron" for italics.

use "b" and "/b" for bold

Thank you, even so….
(aside) …And thanks for switching seats.

‘Kay folks, here are a few resources that might be helpful. (I have not read them yet—probably not ‘till next week.)

I don’t know if we can underline. I wish I knew how to make it so that when you rest your cursor on a link or picture, a comment is displayed.

Hey, I like that idea. but whne you put us over there, seperated by even so, make sure the llama joins us! Who needs chaperones?

Anybody know how to draw caricatures of the teacher, maybe we could use those chevrons.

...or....(:<)..how's that look? Kinda resembles craver, doesn't it?

L.L. Barkat said...

Yup.

And here he is on a good day. (:>) Oops. Kinda looks like a bird. I am not saying Craver is flighty. I did not say that.

OK, I'll play along. Always was the teacher's pet :) (or maybe it's that I was the teacher).

Either way, I found a site that writes the code (for you) for my space backgrounds, etc. It's http://www.strikefile.com/myspace/

And all you have to do is find the corresponding code in your template.

This is all way too complicated for me. Just, someone, please tell me if my blog looks all screwed up!!

Wow. Am I even "in class?" I suppose "Miss Hibby" has been playing hooky for a while, eh? Well, I'm back, Teach. And I wanna sit front and center (sign me up for the title teacher's pet too).

Now, I've never done this before...so - testing, testing. So did that work?

Oh, by the way, you said Merry Christmas in SWEDISH!
The Google-sppointed Queen of Sweden extends her thanks.
Takk så mycket.

God Jul och Gott Nytt År.

She lives!!! Great to “see” you again, Your Highness! Playing hooky or hockey? No-no, don’t sit there; those kids will get you in trouble. Was this apple on my desk from you? How nice.

It would seem that a few of translations might be in order. If I guessed correctly, the Swedish line at the end means, “Thanks so much. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”

As to why this Jen would link to a different Jen, I think it’s because of the “teacher’s pet” theme. The other Jen has a picture of a bunny (pet) on that post.

Oh nuts! Where’s the bunny? Who took the bunny?

Okay, I tried to post here before, but apparently failed. Here's my gift/gimmick that I was thrilled to discover today (if you look at my blog you'll see why. Can you say "borrrring"?). Want to add a picture to your header on blogger? Change the number of widgets for the header to something more than '1' and showaddelement to 'yes' and bingo, you can add a photo! Here's the link where I learned such technosavvy stuff: http://testing-blogger-beta.blogspot.com/2006/09/adding-graphic-to-your-blog-header.html).

Now if I could just find an interesting photo...

A Naperville muse? Do I know you? Gimme a hint if you think I know you, 'kay?

Thanks for the tip. I'll read through it slower over the weekend to see what else I can glean.

Thanks for trying again and I'm so glad you got through.

Wow. You guys are out of control. Hilarious stuff. You seem to have mastered my favorite trick, which is inserting images.

I like the float command because then the text wraps around it.

It doesn't need to be closed with [/img] because it isn't a command to manipulate the text or the image. It is the image itself. That means putting an [a href] around an image makes the entire image into a link.

I have no idea why I posted a serious thought when everyone else cracked jokes. Maybe to redeem myself for upsetting L.L.'s serious Christmas comment.

Ok, is Mark speaking English? Or have we moved on to a lesson in Greek? I still want to know if a Chevron is a car!
