Sky Watch Friday!

There's not a whole lotta tall stuff in Bolingbrook (where I live). I was in Chicago nearly 40 years with tall structures all over the place! Anyway, our high point here is a landfill called Scenic Overlook. Catchy title, eh? It's a popular observation point for birdwatching, especially now because you can spot large migratory birds. I went up there with S2, just to see what it was like. Plus, it's fun to be way up high, over everything. If you look in the background, you'll see Chicago's skyline with the Sears Tower.

.

Giant boy crushing houses. (Chicago Skyline waaaaay back.)

.

A friendly birdwatcher lets S2 look through telescope.

.

Zooming into Chicago's skyline. The Sears Tower is in the center, and that's the John Hancock to your left.

Like "the teach" above me, it's kinda funny seeing people gazing out at what looks like nothing.

But love the shot of S2 crushing houses. :D

As someone who watches birds to photograph I can really appreciate these images. I love open areas like this.

Very cool - what is it with tall places with names like "scenic overlook"? Good grief. Happy SWF.

I really enjoyed these pictures. Fantastic view especially when they are enlarged. My favorite is the one of the boy and he really does look like a giant boy.

i went to the top of the john h. when it was the tallest. i was with a group of high school seniors on a class trip. i remember also going to second city and the sience and industry museum.

i also remember that blocks were much bigger than what i was use to walking and it was very cold and windy.

giving you something to read??????????Nelson Mandela is sitting at home watching the telly when he hears a knock at the door. When he opens it, he is confronted by a little Chinese man, clutching a clip board and yelling, "You sign! You sign!" Behind him is an enormous truck full of car exhausts. Nelson is standing there in complete amazement, when the Chinese man starts to yell louder. "You sign! You sign!" Nelson says to him, "Look mate, you've obviously got the wrong bloke. Push off", and shuts the door in his face. The next day he hears a knock at the door again. When he opens it the little Chinese man is back with a huge truck of brake pads. He thrusts his clipboard under Nelson's nose, yelling, "You sign! You sign!" Mr Mandela is getting a bit hacked off by now, so he shoves the little Chinese man back, shouting: "Look, push off ! You've got the wrong bloke! I don't want them!" Then he slams the door in his face again. The following day, Nelson is resting, and late in the afternoon, he hears a knock on the door again. On opening the door, there is the same little Chinaman thrusting a clipboard under his nose, shouting "You sign! You sign!" Behind him are TWO very large trucks full of car parts. This time Nelson loses his temper completely, he picks up the little man by his shirt front and yells at him; "Look, I don't want these! Do you understand? You must have the wrong name! Who do you want to give these to?" The little Chinese man looks at him very puzzled, consults his clipboard, and says: "You not Nissan Maindealer?"

HAMSTER IN BAR??????????????just for you and your hamster?????????????????????????????A mangy looking guy who goes into a bar and orders a drink. The bartender says: "No way. I don't think you can pay for it. The guy says, "You're right. I don't have any money, but if I show you something you haven't seen before, will you give me a drink?" The bartender says, "Only if what you show me ain't risque." "Deal!" says the guy and reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a hamster. He puts the hamster on the bar and it runs to the end of the bar, climbs down the bar, runs across the room, up the piano, jumps on the key board and starts playing a tune. And the hamster is really good. The bartender says, "You're right. I've never seen anything like that before. That hamster is truly good on the piano." The guy downs the drink and asks the bartender for another. "Money or another miracle, or else no drink", says the bartender. The guy reaches into his coat again and pulls out a frog. He puts the frog on the bar, and the frog starts to sing. He has a marvelous voice and great pitch. A fine singer. A stranger from the other end of the bar runs over to the guy and offers him $300 for the frog. The guy says, "It's a deal." He takes the three hundred and gives the stranger the frog. The stranger runs out of the bar. The bartender says to the guy, "Are you some kind of nut? You sold a singing frog for $300? It must have been worth millions. You must be crazy." "Not so", says the guy. "The hamster is also a ventriloquist."

Great views. I love being on a high hill and looking out over the surrounding countryside, unfortunately I live in quite a flat area, so no chance to do that very often.
But that looks like a great place to take a running leap and shout HAGOOOOOO! You should try it some time.
