grandson

Rylan

My daughter sent us a progress report on our grandson. Yes, I said grandson... it's a boy. And she included a picture. His name is Rylan. The Lord bless you, little buddy!

His original due date was February 27th, but it most likely will be bumped up to February 14th. We find out in about a week and a half.

so how do you pronounce that?
RYE (like the drink) LAN
or
perhaps it rhymes with (Bob) Dylan?

good news about your grandson.

i was wondering what is going on with you? are you all ok?

Good question, Shammy. I wondered that Rylan is rare, but not completely unique. The first syllable has a long "i" sound, like "rye."

We're counting our blessings NaNcY. Thanks for asking. Yes, the family is great. :-)

Oh, and 'Renzo, this will indeed be our first grandchild. I think he wants to pretend he's a mule. D1 says he kicks a lot. He presses against her lungs too, so that it's hard for her to breathe. Poor thing.

I discovered that "Rylan" as a variant of "Ryland" usually means "land where rye is grown." "Rylan" on its own usually has the meaning of "island meadow" which works well since Wesley's name means "western meadow." Rylan is also believed to be sourced from the Gaelic name "Ri" which means "King." Good choice for us all around. :)
