February thaw

Oh happy day! It was warm enough on Saturday for me to ride my bicycle instead of driving. (The bike in the photo is not mine, but my son's. I took that shot in September.) Where was I? Oh, yes... my wife was kind enough to load the heavy, bulky equipment I needed into her van, and that freed me up to hop on the bicycle.

.

After she drove off, I expected to follow immediately, but the rear tire was low on air. There were two air pumps close at hand, but both were broken. Did I bother to get rid of them? No, of course, not. So I rode on low tires, huffing and puffing all the way. I didn't mind though. It's such a break to finally get away from this single-digit (fahrenheit*) weather with sub-zero wind-chills.

.

There was wet, sloppy mud everywhere, but I didn't care. You could hear every downspout and puddle guzzle away at the thawing snow, drinking down all those cool, refreshing icicles. Yum!!

.

In a way, I felt sorry for everyone who did not ride their bikes on Saturday. You missed a good thing. Now let's see... there ought to be another pump around here somewhere...

.

*Metric conversion = really, really, really cold!!!!

That's not a thaw, Shoebee-doo; that's a veritable heat wave!!! :-)

Ah Nancy, it was SUCH a good day!

(snort) Yeah Lime, I'm very scientific. Ain't I?

It's a thaw when you still have ice on the ground on driveway.

By the way....smacks to you....I can't help that I'm a busy lady.

My bike is still hanging in the garage, it won't see the light of day for a while yet.
Your new baby should be arriving soon, shouldn't he?
And as for those retro tiles for your retro kitchen, I'll ship 'em off to you as soon as I liberate them from the wall!

Dear Vander Crave,

There was no room on the moving van for my bike! It was left behind in Michigan and has not made its way here nor been replaced. My waistline continues to expand due to lack of exercise. Happy for your thaw. We're barely making it into the 50s the last couple of days. And we have rain! Oh my!

Got it, Shoebee. You messed up my hair!! ;-)

Oh no, Shammy. I haven't asked my wife about a retro kitchen, and I know better than to go around changing her kitchen without consulting her first.

Lack of exercise, Shiloh Guy? My reason for casting a larger shadow is that I am becoming more fuel efficient. :-)

Say, that was an expert pun at your blog about the bowling alley. I meant to leave a comment.

One of my favorite things to do is ride my bike to a destination rather than drive. The feeling of accomplishment mixed with all those endorphins is bliss. Hope you get some more warm days!
