(Facebook friends, this is the same place where I got hurt showing the kids how do execute a proper cannonball dive.).
As dinner was being grilled, I noticed that this hummingbird, confident of its quickness, was not as shy as the other birds. The feeder was less than ten feet away, so I mounted camera and flash on a homemade monopod and waited..
This little fella posed real nice, but I couldn't get him to smile.

Craver: Very nice capture of the hummer. Those buggers are really quick.
I bet you smiled tho, when you saw what you captured Craver.
WOW thats really nice!
I put up a hummingbird feeder too this year but all I saw were ants. I've seen the hummers in my back yard before but not so far this year, but we have had so much rain and cool temps.... perhaps thats why.
wow, great pic, you can see his wings flittering about
Fishing Guy, not only are hummingbirds quick, flittering here and there, never making up their minds, but my old camera is very slow. That in mind, I aimed at the feeder, pressed the shutter button half way and held it until this little guy was in place. If I had aimed at the bird, I would never have gotten anywhere.
(lol) As soon as I had the shot, I ran inside the house, showing everybody, Imac. Yes, sometimes I act like a child; I know.
Sorry to hear that, Shammy. I hope the rain brings lots of nice, green things at least.
The way they fly is neat, isn't it Mommanator? It reminds me of treading water, hence the title: treading air.
good shot
love the title
birds in general i have very little luck capturing. a hummingbird is all but impossible for me. very nicely done!
This is a NICE shot, Craver! I have yet to catch a hummingbird at my my feeder this year. You moved quickly!
nAncY, you know what? There are pictures I've taken that I didn't post because I don't have decent titles for them. Not many... just a few.
Lime, I've seriously considered taking the screens out of the windows and constructing a blind inside the house, but methinks my Mrs. wouldn't be too pleased with me hogging the kitchen and dining room for that.
Aw thanks, EG. Slowly though. I moved slowly. Veeery slowly.
