nahn dess KAH?

Nahn-dess-KAH is Japanese for "What is it?" In this case, if you didn't recognize the photo, it is the rear view of a tube amplifier. I was running sound that night, and found myself mezmerized by the vacuum tubes' amber glow and greenish wash of ambient light from the gymnasium's mercury lights, so I took the pic using only available light.

.

As I said, I was the sound tech that week. We have an exciting new development though! One of the band leaders asked me to play conga drums for her. I said that I would try, so long as we understood that if I didn't think I could pull it off, that I had the option to back out--even at the last minute. I practiced hard, and tried to learn them well enough to help the team out that week. To my delight, it was not as scary as I thought it would be. She asked me to be on their team for congas again at the end of the month. Yea!

.

I wish we had more sound techs. I need to be able to cut back to only once a month, twice max. Whoever runs sound has the job for both services, and misses out on classes during the second hour. We are developing an exciting new teaching track that covers systematic theology. This new class is something that church people need, and thinking Christians could really sink their teeth into. I will come in to instruct an occasional class, but I want to be there as a part of the class, even when I'm not teaching. I'll bet we find ourselves having great discussions.

.

This novice conguero will probably not be banging on the drums a whole lot, but I am thoroughly enjoying each of the opportunities that I am allowed to serve in. Whether tweaking the equalizer for an electric guitar, or scribbling theology on a chalkboard, Sunday mornings provide an environment that I thrive in, and I can't get enough of it!

Craver: Those were cool colors of the tubes, you don't see them much any longer.

Craver, you have such an incredibly rich life! I admire your zest for discovery.

the only thing i know about tube amplifiers is akin to using a paper towel tube as a megaphone.

congas and systematic theology, ain't it great to have two such divergent interests tickled in one palce?

You are a multi-talented person, Craver! The tubes make an interesting photo. I don't think I would have thought of that. But now my camera lens will be looking at the backs of amplifiers. ;-)

I can see ya banging the drums for Jesus!

First - I thought you did a great job with the drums!

Second - hard to teach Jr High and attend at the same time, but my thought will surely be with you. One of the reasons I was hoping for one service was in hopes that more people would attend classes second hour if we could get them in service first hour.

I don't know as much as I'd like about amps Fishing Guy, but some guitarists prefer the sound coming from tube amps.

Zest. I like that. Thanks for the award Gaelyn. I have posted the image on my sidebar with pride! It is an honor to receive an award from you.

Oh I sing, Joan! In fact, I love to sing! But doing solos or leading the congregation... THAT is a different story!! I wish I could; I really do.

That's entertaining television, Imac. Some entertainment comes from people who are gifted, and some entertainment comes from delusional folks who think that because they like to get loud in the shower or in their cars, that they can bypass all the training that really gifted people go through. I like Simon Cowell. He may be abrasive, but he tells it like it is. Some people need honesty to slap them in the face, because they never listen to it whisper.

(snickering) I never said I got "tickled" at church, Lime.

Ah yes EG... I DO tend to paint myself in the most favorable light, don't I? Believe me, the congas is hardly what I would call a talent. It is just something I stumbled into because we didn't have a drummer. And I put a lot of time in, just to find out that I couldn't make them sound the way I hoped, and ended up keeping the rhythm VERY simple. :-)

Just filling in, where my friends needed a hand, Mommanator.

Thank you for the encouraging comment Halfmom. (Yes folks, she and I go to the same church.)

It would be great if this series can spin off into a broader interest in sound doctrine and systematic theology in particular. I would love to see sections brought to different groups at church and in homes.

Have you ever read Wayne Grudem's "Systematic Theology"?It's awesome and very in depth. Theology classes at Southern use it and we went through it in Sunday school at State Street Baptist.

Halfmom said...

Funny, little Grudem is what we used to use to teach Sr High.
