jumping to conclusions

These are unidentified grasshoppers. If anyone knows more specifics, I would be happy to add that information.

.

I like grasshoppers. Usually. This is the first time that I have seen one with a face like what you see on the lighter green hopper. It was singing from a bush, and it let me get very, very close for a nice, macro shot. The chirping sound was pretty, but this character has a face for radio, if you know what I mean.

.

The grasshopper in the wood chips looks more like what I have come to expect, but the detailed photo suggests that this one is a slob. Look at all that dirt on him. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

.

Both grasshoppers were seen at the Morton Arboretum last Friday.

That's a great macro shot. I'm glad they are small!!

Jackie, I deduce from your profile photo, that the front of your face looks like a camera. That's as beautiful as any I've seen. (grin)

Seriously though, it seems that most people (except middle-aged men) tend to think they are less beautiful or handsome than they really are. A middle-aged man can be unshaven and out of shape and still think the 20-something waitresses like him. LOL

Oh, did I say those were macros? No Happyone, I had to use a wide angle, because they were so big... Aaaah! Everyone run for your lives! ;-)

Yep...Nikon face. That's me in a nutshell. Love your humor, my friend. These days, almost all photos of me are from 'da behindside' (...and I do mean the face shots.)
I use to love to have my photo taken, but these doggone digital cameras apparently are putting wrinkles in. What's with that???
Beware of those hoppers. They look as though you could put a saddle on 'em and ride 'em. :))

Looks like the same as I saw on a open top bus at st Ives in Cornwall, it jumped on me and walked up my arm.

Thank you for letting us see your face, Jackie. There is something cool and mysterious about never seeing the blogger's face, but it feels more like a normal friendship when I we can see the person and not just their works. And as much as I admire the work you do, the photography, the skillful use of words, the edifying content... I count you as a friend and a sister.

Imac, I think I remember you blogging about that. How long ago was that? It must have been two or three years ago, right?

Bugs are fascinating, Lime. I used to chat with a lady from South Africa who took lots of amazing bug photos. She was shy about showing her face, too. Then when she finally did, she stopped blogging. :-(

I'm glad to know you in all your tie-dyed and wavy-haired glory. :-)

Both of these macros are great. I'm not sure either grasshopper has a television or movie career to look forward to.

I used to hate it when we catch these critters and they would spit tobacco in your hand.

Great photographs Crav. Love it. These are Locusts as well, are they not? John the Baptist loved eating these crunchy little insects, didn't he?

Your pics made me think of this old cartoon I used to watch as a kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRKTK_zMVBs&feature=related

Have a wonderful Lord's Day Craver in the awesome presence of our Savior's joy, love, and truth!

I dunno George... If that dark-eyed hopper would clean himself up a bit...

Getting older ain't so bad Imac. It beats the alternative.

Thanks Betty. I'm loving this new camera.

Really Sandman? I thought locusts were bigger and badder. But I don't really know much about that. I have never seen that cartoon series before. It was cute.

Unidentified?

That first one is Bob, and the second one looks like Todd.

Sorry. :-) I had to.

I like grasshoppers unless they are eating something I would rather they didn't. :) Excellent photos!

So glad for your visit, Pearl. I think you are absolutely right. Henceforth, the grasshopper in the top photo will be referred to as Bob, and the other one will be known as Todd. Problem solved. :-)

I like grasshoppers too, EG. For some reason though, it always startled me when I tried to catch them and they jumped out of my hand. Thanks for the compliment.
