send more snow

People around here are generally less enthusiastic about the snow now, than say, at Christmas time. Either way, I tried a few weeks ago to get a nice pic while it was snowing, but it was light outside, and the snow did not turn out well in those pics. Since then, I have been waiting for the night time, to use the flash, and make it really stand out.

.

(Click any pic to enlarge. This first shot is straight out of the camera (sooc), completely unedited.)

.

The first photo looks like more snow than we were really having, because when I got ready to snap the picture, a gust of wind filled the air with lots more snow from my rooftop.

.

If you saw the photo of the icy eclipse from last week, the second photo here is the same tree and streetlight. I tried a night setting from the camera's program (twilight plus), and it produced a very reddish hue, so I took a little bit of that color out in post editing. Now, this looks more like what I actually saw that night.

.

Have you ever taken pictures of a snow flake? I didn't think of it that night, but right now, that's what I hope to get... a macro shot of a single snowflake.

Nice work Craver, macro snowflake, now thats going to be very hard.
To get a sharp shot I think - that might be a miracle.
Good luck.

Do you know just how hard it is to take pics of snowflakes? The people of nationl geographic make a serious job of it. They catch them, put them on slides, if they arent just at the right temp they melt before pic can be taken-and you thought I was just another pretty face!
Hey go for it I'll look! and say nah nah nah nah to national geographiC teehee
OO by the way you amy have my share of snow. I only like it when it's first fallen and only lasts a day!

Are you crazy??? More snow?? I would think you are wishing it would go away by now. :)

These are great shot Craver you really captured it well.

Miracle, Imac. Now, you know I've got connections there.

Fishing Guy, I think daylight might be my best opportunity for that single snowflake. Maybe on a car windshield, but I need to start bringing my tripod with me.

Oh Mommanator, I love the snow! I like to see a thick white covering, and the sharp contrast with a shoveled driveway, capped trees, tobogganing, snowmen, the whole bit! For your information, the wind chill is ten below right now (-23°C). Brrrr...

Am I crazy?? Joan, you should know by now that I am positively certifiable! Shhhh... don't tell.

would love to share some of ours with you. Looks like we'll be getting a doozy of a storm tonight and tomorrow. I have never tried the snowflake, but it sounds like something Ornery might attempt if he gets a chance. Nice pix, though. Even if I am a desert rat and prefer sunshine and over 65 degrees!

i'd say that gust of wind blowing snow from the roof was a nicely timed coincidence.

good luck on the macro shot, that sort of thing amazes me because the flakes melt away so fast!

So good to hear from you, Ornery's Wife (tm)! I tested some macros last night, but not snowflakes. It might be harder than I thought to get this. Yes, please send your snow this way!

Nancy, that's quite a different look from the "eclipse" shot of the same tree, isn't it?

It was comical Lime, because I stood there all bundled up, and did not move from that spot. Meanwhile, anybody else who might have been outside at that time was hurriedly trying to get in out of the cold.

I hope to know within a week or two, whether the snowflake shot will work. I'm not saying that I expect to have mastered it, just scratching the surface is enough for now.

Is that Sasquatch behind the tree?

First, Hearty Congratulations on achieving 22 years and still loving the same lady. So many couples never get half that distance. And your snow pictures are really nice, but I have to admit, I'm a little tired of snow. As you said, it's nice around Christmas, but I've already had enough and it's not even Feb yet.
