where there's smoke...

We did a lot more entertaining last year than this one. For a while, it seemed that I was grilling quite a bit, and I was hoping that this year, I could diversify a little bit from the grill, instead of the same old burgers and chicken.

.

The charcoal grill (last year's Father's Day present) has been such a treat, that it's been a while since I've even opened up the gas grill. I went in there yesterday, and HEY, we've got company! I grilled anyway, and I was sure that I was going to get stung, but they left me alone. Too bad I couldn't return the favor, but with some folks having allergies, I don't want to have these things swarming on my deck.

So how did the BBQed wasps taste?

That is a great close up! Are they yellow jackets?

One might think they taste good the way dogs eat them Gaelyn. Then again, dogs like to eat out of the cat litter box, so I don't trust their taste buds.

Yes Happyone, I think they are yellow jackets. Yellow jackets are good for pictures, because they don't buzz around so haphazardly like other flying things.

Waspy burgers, as long as you cooked their heads a while or they are crunchy.

I have be stung by those little rascals a few times.

Nice photo Craver.

The wife and I are going to have Salmon cooked on the grill tonight. One of my fav-o-rites, let me tell you.

With honey mustard of course, Imac.

Only twice for me, Sandman. Once on the palm, once on the backhand. Both times it felt like fire. Salmon on the barbie is good eatin! Mmmm... How do you prepare yours (bun, toppings, etc.) and what do you like for sides?

Patti, my wife, seasons the fish, and then we grill it. It's really tasty.
We had rice and sauteed green beans with it tonight.

We hold hands and thank the Lord for His grace and blessings, and I prayed for my daughter who is pregnant, and with an Amen, we enjoyed a fine diner.

The Lord really is way too gracious to me.

Have a blessed evening Craver.

Oh those are nasties Craver so watch out for them or else you are not going to be doing much cooking.

Making meals on the BBQ is almost a daily thing for us because of the moderate weather we have and so there are big recipe books on the shelves in our stores. We never do hamburgers on them but mostly steaks and chops with the wife/girfriend making salads to go with it. This sure is my favorite was of cooking and like you, I am always the one doing the cooking but I do enjoy it.

Grandpa Sandman, may the Lord grant your daughter a son or daughter who lives to be a blessing to his or her parents, and may that young one's heart be drawn to the Lord early in life. May the Lord be pleased to pour his grace out on you and your family.

As for my dinner last night, Thursdays we volunteer at the food pantry, and I usually have to skip dinner, but instead enjoy pastries and decaf with our guests. This time I was surprised by Brother Greg who treated me to a grilled burger and baked beans.

I figure I'm doing alright Joan, having only been stung twice in my entire life... plus, I don't have that scary, severe allergic reaction. Grilling is good fun. I have a lot to learn, but at least I don't still douse the coals with lighter fluid like I used to.

Well if it's any consolation EG, these wasps will never visit your place. I banished several of them to Valhalla, and the rest have reformed their ways and are living out the remainder of their days in quiet monasticism.

Craver: Those look like some pretty mean critters. Hope they met a timely end.

Well you got a nice picture and I understand fully the allergy problem ;-)

Some got away, Fishing Guy. But for those that were bold enough to stick around, their demise was swift and sure.

My own family is not allergic Chris; it's our friends that we sometimes invite. But the fear factor is our very own thing, as you will see by the comment I leave now for Bird Girl...

Oh Bird Girl, they don't only go for the sugar filled Coca Cola. My wife had the same experience. She was drinking a Diet Coke from McDonald's one day during a garage sale. A bee got inside that straw, and stung her in the throat. That was scary for us, but she came out of it fine. That was more than ten years ago, and I know that (for a while at least), she would not drink through a straw.

OMG Craver, this shot is amazing!!! You can even see the larvae!! Lucky you for not getting stung. I love bees (I secretly want to be a beekeeper someday, hehe) but wasps scare me a little :P They can be vicous little creatures.
