There is a time and a season for everything. A time to haul around a camera bag everyplace I go, and a time to say goodbye to that camera. I wish I could say it's because I've upgraded, or something like that. Alas no,
my Pentax died last week. Long story short, I managed to soak it in what appeared to be green ectoplasm. (We didn't send any samples of ooze to a lab for testing, but I'm sure that's what it was.) Anyway, the camera is toast.
Adieu, mon vieux! A replacement DSLR is not really an option right now. Weep with me, my friends!
.
To make matters worse, I made the horrific discovery
en route to what was supposed to be a 2-day portrait shoot for a graduation. The young lady's parents let me use their Canon Rebel. The substitute was so fun to use, I forgot about the demise of my own camera... almost.
.
So, this is the last photo from my dearly departed. One evening, only days before it's demise, I flipped up the flash, set the focus to manual, and prowled to and fro on my lawn. A dozen mosquito bites later,
voila, a keeper!

Super photo!
Sorry about your camera!
Bitten twice I'd say Craver,lol.
Great shot - love it.
Camera, oh dear, just a thought, can you claim on the house insurance ??
I got covered with a wave a few years ago, got drenched and the camera with me, claimed on insurance and got a cheque thru the post week after for full price.
Hope this will stem your teras my friend, its like losing your right arm init.
Sorry to hear about your camera Craver, that's a real bummer. But now that you've played with the Rebel I'm sure you're thinking about getting one now :)
Cool shot!
Thanks, Mr. Dave. I see that you put a link to your web site on your sidebar, but it's too small. I recommend including a picture or icon of some sort, so that it draws more attention.
Thank you, Happyone. That camera was used a lot, for the short time I had it.
Insurance? I don't know, Imac. I'll check into that. Thanks for the tip. Yes, it is tough to be suddenly incapacitated like this.
Wendy, I'm weird in that I like to brag about how poor I am. I earn a modest income and my wife is a stay-at-home mom. This is something that I revel in, because the way I see it, there is victory in living (relatively) debt free. That being said, barring an unforeseen act of God, it is doubtful that I get my paws on a new camera. ...I'm praying for a blessing from Heaven.
Oh no! How very sad.
I have a Rebel and love it, by the way.
Oh, sorry to hear about the demise of the camera, I hope you gave it a suitably solemn funeral. Green ectoplasm? Have you been watching too many horror movies?
It's a good idea to try the house insurance but often the deductible is more than the camera is worth.
I hope this means that you're not going to stop blogging.
love it!
amazing shot!
so sorry to hear about your camera. :(
it is a sad day when that sort of thing happens. i was without anything other than the crapola camera on my phone for over a year while i saved for a new camera. i hope sooner rather than later you'll be able to get a new one so you can be back to photography.
