There is some debate about whether to celebrate this holiday, and how to do it. I have heard arguments on different sides, and find it difficult to settle on a definitive, once-and-for-all kind of answer.

In the Craver household, we have observed the holiday traditionally at times, and at other times we chose a more conservative substitute. I like going outside with our children and mingling with the neighbors. I like seeing creative or humorous exhibits. I like challenging the Jehovah's Witnesses when they try to slip a Watch Tower magazine in the bag instead of candy. And finally, I like taking pictures to try and get the most out of the costumes. Here, we have Wolverine. I accented his hairy face, and enlarged his canines. Then I placed a grainy layer on top
of the pic, so that it looks tougher.

I have to admit that I liked Brother Greg's duck hunter costume. I wonder if he was going for your regular, run-of-the-mill duck hunter or the famed Elmer Fudd..
This year, they'll have to hit the streets without me. I'll be working too late for the walkabout. But today is not just Halloween; it is also Reformation Day, and my small-group's tradition is to watch a Martin Luther movie together each year for this..
Did any of your churches sing "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" on Reformation Sunday? Mine didn't, but I kinda wish they would have.

We didn't sing "A Mighty Fortress", but the organist played a wonderful version of it. I hope you'll be able to see the Martin Luther movie, even if you miss the Halloween walkabout.
We don't have Reformation Sunday, but we do sing that song.
Jack and I will have homemade soup and sandwiches this evening....and will hug our Grands as they come over before going to the church tonight.

We stay in and give out chocolates to the kids as they come round knocking on doors for trick - or - treat.
That hymn lends itself well to the organ, George. How blessed you are that you could enjoy that rich experience.
Soup and sandwiches are sooo good in cool weather! Jackie, what a blessed to be able to see your grandchildren! Mine live in Oklahoma, so we might only see them once or twice a year.
I had almost forgotten about the "trick" part, Imac. My 12-year-old brought me a hot apple pie from McDonald's. When I took it out of the box, a big plastic bug came out of the box, too. He's a little stinker. :-)
"A Mighty Fortress" is a powerful hymn, the music goes so well with the words. :)
the church i went to when i was a teen was a very german church so the reformation hymns were always sung with gusto on that sunday. i do kind of miss it.
