recent snapshots
May 29, 2013
Check out my pals for their interpretations on this theme:
Fishing Guy,
Katney,
Imac and
Lew. We are each doing our own thing this week, just showing recent snapshots. Go see what my friends have been up to.
There was a lot of fun stuff going on as I have been exploring light in these shots. The header was an experiment to see how well I could separate his dark hair from the black background, without washing out the details from his fair complexion.

"Vadering." |
The trick shot where my daughter is using a force choke on my son, that
was a combination of the right time of day (dusk) as the backlight, plus
an over-head streetlight to give nice highlights in the hair, and
on-camera flash for front fill. He jumped from the concrete base of the
streetlight (off-camera) to give the illusion that he had been lifted
from the ground. She is on her knees to exaggerate the height, and I
shot the pic on my belly.

musician's promo pic |
A musician friend needed to put a promo package together real quick for a
new project, so I tried to get an artsy kind of portrait that mixes
warm, natural colors for her person, and cooler tones on the wall. She
was very cooperative as we tried a bunch of "scenes" and lots of tries
with different lights.

graduating from 8th grade |
My newest portrait is one that we needed for the graduates' bulletin
board at church. He's moving up from 8th grade. This was taken with
one off-camera flash high and to my left, and I held a second flash on
the other side of the tree to illuminate the background.

Craver: Cool snapshot of your son.
Magic from Craver eh, nice snaps my friend
Nice work with the lighting and exposure in these shots. The header is great use of light!
I like what you did with all of these shots. Your header is wonderful, but all of them are wonderful. Very well done!
I love your experiments my friend.
Can't choose a favorite but I will say little Craver is a handsome young man. :)
the vadering shot cracks me up. well done. and the header i think you di. a great job separating the hair from the background. it's details like that which really make or break a shot. nicely handled
Hi There, Thanks so much for checking out my blog... I loved doing that bird post...
Your photos are GREAT. You have such a handsome son--and so photogenic I like all of the photos --but the header is SUPER. Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy
first off, your header portrait is absolutely fabulous!
your son is very handsome!
love the photos here.
happy thursday!:)
You sure know a lot more about taking portraits than I do! I like your work!
You are so knowledgeable, Craver.
I have been away and missed this blog, but I am glad I found it this morning. You know so many ways to enhance a photo using light...and then there's the one of you on your tummy (again)...while your son is jumping in the air. Great techniques. I love to come and learn what you are using and doing in your photography. Always great shots...
Your family is so lovely.
Hugs to all of you!
Jackie
