panning

This week's challenge is panning, selected by... moi! Check out my pals for their interpretations on this theme: Fishing Guy, Katney, Imac, Lew, and Christine Anne.
We're usually trying to hold the camera still, right? But there are times when you want the camera to be moving! Following a moving subject is one example of how we might want to move the camera for a better photographic result. I thought the execution would be relatively easy, but I was never quite satisfied with a good contrast between a perfectly sharp subject and an exaggerated motion-blurred background. Nonetheless, I think it was a good idea to practice this. Now, I would be at least a little familiar with what works and how many times I can expect to try and retry the shots. It's just another tool in our toolbox, I guess.

Very interesting panning shots my friend.
There are so many tools in your toolbox that I can't imagine you mastering more....but you are.
I love the sense of motion in these shots. It is not easy to pan and take a photo. That is why you have never seen ONE photo like that of mine. I'm a miserable failure at it. But....practice makes perfect.

I think following from left to right is a natural for us. But could very well be the opposite for Hebrew and Arabic readers.
You caught the red SUV well! Great sense of motion. Focus and panning at the same time is difficult.
Panning is hard, huh? :) Love the car panning.
I think you did a very good job panning these shots. I haven't had much success at all with this technique.
I have never mastered this concept. I may have one shot I'd share - maybe. :)

nicely done. i think it must require a good sense of timing as well as other things.
