on vacation

Woo hoo! I'm going on vacation!

.

When people ask me where am I going for vacation, I tell them Purgatory.

.

(crickets chirping)

.

Ooh, tough room. I guess you gotta see the project to appreciate that one.

.

Actually, I'll be strapping the tool belt and trying to fix some things around the house. There will be a lot of work in the upstairs bathroom. It will be labor-intensive with a strictly limited budget. Pray that I find good bargains and don't ruin anything.

.

During the week, I will have limited access to the Web, which means I probably won't be installing new posts. (awww...) I might check in, now and then. (yea!!)

.

. Alrighty then, let's see if we have enough first aid supplies and Advil for the castle renovation!

is that a photo of your "upstairs bathroom?" If so, I can see why you mention it will need a lot of work. Have fun, and may you be protected from the "while we're at it" infection that so often plagues our home improvement projects! :)

Negative, Mamatoo. I haven't torn up any walls yet. I do not intend to take it to that level, but when I saw that picture on Flickr.com, I said, "Aah! That's it!" It captured how I felt.

By the way, you will find credits for the pictures I use in teeeeeny tiny letters at the bottom of each post.

Keep your eyes on the prize! Just think of how it will look when it's all done:)

Are you really going on vacation? or is this renovation project your vacation?!?!?!

so you and Mrs Craver can come over to my house and play with my internet while you're on vacation if you like. It's fast and free and there's an extra laptop here at the moment

beside, Mrs Craver loves me!

I can see why your bathroom needs re-doing.
Love Lorenzo.

Ini, I'm sure you meant it as an encouragement, but when I try to imagine realistically how it will look when it's done, I am struck with a profound sense of despair and my bottom lip begins to quiver. ;-)

We will try to do stuff as a family to celebrate that I have a week off of from my regular job, but taking the home repairs into account, I'm not really off from "work," am I?

Don't tempt me, Halfmom. How far are you from NSC? I am one mile East.

Anyway, I'm concerned that Mrs. Craver may not have the warm fuzzies for me if I skip out to play in the blogosphere. And yes, she does love you!

Before and after pictures? Ha! Don't hold your breath, Stacy. My skill level is just enough to be dangerous. Let's hope this little project doesn't end up getting me institutionalized... or hospitalized. 'Renzo, I'll be careful not to smash any toes, okay?

I often find new work very refreshing. If I can turn my back on the world for a while, then it's no matter that I don't have my feet up. The mental space is what I'm after. (Do they offer that in renovation?)

Have fun?

In this part of the world, "Purgatory" is a small chasm in the woods where people like to go hiking.

Have fun with the renos, Craver!

I remember when we did our bedroom...tearing out three ceilings to make cathedrals.... Yikes.

Advil is a good idea at our age, Craver. My husband and I tiled my mom's kitchen last summer, and I was sore for THREE DAYS! Xiao xin! (carefuuuullll) ha!

Good luck!

Do you want me to come and help with the bathroom? I will start walking now and should be there in time for Christmas if you can cross your legs until then!

I am 2 miles away but cannot tell you in what direction that is for I am greatly challenged in this way - but I can tell you, that as the crow flies, about halfway between NSC and IKEA.

And, I had in mind Mrs Craver and I playing in blogland together while you have to play by yourself! However, the granting has depleted my strength for the moment so this is as social as anyone will see me before Sunday morning.

Halfmom, AKA, Susan said...

oops, that would be Mrs Craver and me - and there are two laptops so you would only have to play in blogland by yourself - we would share dinner and giggles with you.

and yes, she does love you quite a lot - and I keep scratching my head and wondering???????????

Craver, Looks like a good start! You're an ambitious young man. Though that is one good way to save on the budget. Hope all works out well for you!

(Something electrical under our automatic dishwasher went wacky. Life goes on.)

Down to the studs, you go Craver! Post some progress shots if you can.

Never give up, never give up...unless it's to call a plumber.

Let us know if you run out of Advil.

Ted DID say young man, Mr. 42! Now that's got to inspire you.

Woops, didn't realize the photo was "for illustration purposes only"

(just read through the comments again...)

Hope the vacation (i.e. purgatory) is going well! Your probably knee deep in drywall and plumbing putty by now! Be careful

Hey, how's "vacation" going??

Vacation Update:
It's slow-going. Ha-ha! I will never be fast enough to work on one of those home makeover reality television shows. But on the upside, I have only spent seventeen dollars so far. Yesss!

The drywall should be done tonight. Wednesday, I will apply a coat of primer, but I don't know whether we will finish the wall with paint or something else.

Welp... I'll see you guys later!

Mrs Craver left a wonderful comment - I am very proud of her!!

I guess if your house is a mess, we shouldn't leave your blog a mess. Perhaps that's why everyone is being so well-behaved around here...

Martin Stickland said...

Just popped by to wish you luck!

Move that bus! Move that bus!

You have purgatory, we have renovation boot camp.

Last time I went on holidays to do renovating, my DH set the alarm for 9am every morning (WTF - an ALARM ON HOLIDAYS???) so that I would get up and finish the renovation before the holiday ended.

Some holiday/vacation. :/

Good luck with yours! The results can be a joy, but renovating is a chore!
