f-f-f-freezing temps

.

The weather has been exceptionally cold lately. We gotta keep moving, though. Inching along on the treacherous ice, we'll eventually get where we need to be. Some may find this hard to understand, but I actually like living in cold weather. The snow is beautiful and it is exciting to witness the changing of the seasons. Most of the time, if you anticipate the needs of the season, you can keep enjoying the present weather.

.

Friends treated us to a special evening last Saturday. We got all dressed up and drove into cold, wet, slushy Chicago to see The Screwtape Letters and have dinner at a restaurant. We met some of their other friends and the whole event was such a pleasurable diversion from our regular routines. I hope you get a chance to read it yourself. It's a funny book from a brilliant English mind.

.

Check this one out. The plowed heap of snow is just as high as the car next to it!

.

Hey, in a few weeks, we'll be trekking down to Florida to visit family on account of the arrival of our new grandson, Rylan. He's due February 14 and last night, I did a trial-assembly of a crib we plan on bringing for him. That day will probably race up to us quickly, and we have to get ready for the looooong trip. Once we arrive, the weather will be fine I'm sure, but I'm dreading that drive. I'll probably pack a little cooler with Snickers and Red Bull to keep myself alert. Please pray for good driving weather and a safe trip!

Hey Craver,
When you get to Fl you could look up Mommanator....but with the arrival of a grandbaby you won't have much time. Enjoy the drive and the baby.

I'm waiting on my new grand-niece, being born about the same time! It will be a while though before seeing her in person!

Screwtape Letters is one of my all-time favorite books. Lewis understood mankind so very well!!

I haven't read that book, but now I shall put it on my "to read" list.
We have twice as much snow as that!!!!
Big big day in USA today.
Good luck to your new president.... and may the people (and the media!) employ caution, understanding and patience cos the current mess will take more than a few weeks to clear up!
Hooray for Mr Obama.
And hooray for all the people who voted for him.

Congratulations and best wishes to our new president. I pray that he does well in office. I really do.

Honestly though, I am concerned about a shift towards socialism, and I think many who voted for him are expecting him to do too much.

I am especially alarmed at the level of his disregard for the sanctity of human life. I don't expect to be applauded for my stand on this, just like the abolitionists were criticized for trying to rid this nation of the evil of slavery. 50 million innocent babies have been legally killed since Roe v. Wade. My deepest wish for Obama is that he have a change of mind, and lead this country on a great mission of rescuing lives, rather than promoting abortion, paying for it with tax dollars, forcing doctors, nurses and pharmacists to act against their conscience, and not requiring that parents be notified if a minor goes to the doctor's office for this terrible "procedure."

It is a distortion to call it "a woman's reproductive rights." No. It is the senseless butchering of innocent lives, because stupid boys go around poking everything that moves, and girls who don't know how to respect their bodies, and the awe inspiring gift that they carry. It is the idiocy that pervades humanity, that says if you remove a problem (or person) from sight, you don't have to pay for your errors, or provide restitution, but instead, let somebody else pay for it and behave as they never existed with no after-effects or consequences.

Just like slavery had to change, this is a terrible injustice, and it needs to be corrected.

I am not against Obama; I am against abortion. There is a difference.

Cravemeister,

One of my best friends from Carol Stream went into Chicago to see Screwtape Letters and raved about it. He especially liked the woman who played Hornpipe. He also said it very well portrayed Lewis' intentions in writing the book. Did you think so? I've loved Screwtape Letters for years. Too many people fail to see the powerful truths Lewis touched upon and read it as an entertainment only!

We missed the changing seasons this fall and winter. It was hard to go Christmas shopping in 60 degree weather with any sense of the holidays. But right now? Happy to be in California again!

Congratulations on the grandbaby. We'll pray for his safe arrival. I'm starting to wonder when the Lord will grant me the blessing of grandkids! My kids are still all single and I'm getting old!

Oh, one more thing,

So glad to hear you are praying for our new president. Let's also pray for our legislators and judiciary. We've had a pro-life president for eight years and he has been unable to do ANYTHING to reverse the curse of abortion in our land. President Obama will not influence the matter nearly as much as the House, Senate, and Supreme Court. May God bring himself glory by changing their hearts and minds!

A grandson. Awesome Craver. Drink about a dozen Red Bulls will get ya there.

I'll be praying for you all.

"And hooray for all the people who voted for him."

All the people?

How about me, I voted for McCain, don't I get a horrah, or hooray? Not that i was fired up about John, it was more of a vote against Obama.
Yet, now that he is president I'll be praying for him, and I feel the way Craver does.

Love the curvy snow. Love the feet on ice, with subtle shadows. I'm crazy loving all this winter, even as it saps my strength.

Congratulations on being a grandpa!
My parents tell me how different it is than being a parent (after my wife and I had our first).

The snow in the picture reminded me of all the snow we had in seattle this year. It has been a strange season for us- we don't usually get much snow.

It was fun having snow actually falling on Christmas day.

I don't mind cold weather at all when there is a warm house to go to. I like it in fact. But here, I have to go outside in the sun to warm up, and winter just isn't that appealing to me under those circumstances!
