constellation of starlings

All the other poles are bare, so why do they crowd each other like this?

.

  1. Perhaps they're related to mocking birds, so they're mimicking each other.
  2. It's their impersonation of a fine-toothed comb.
  3. They're raking the sky.
  4. They're playing DMV.
  5. There's a short in the light post and they're getting "buzzed."
  6. They evolved from lemmings.
  7. Somebody told them they could perch on any other pole except this one.
  8. Pranksters smeared glue on the post last night.
  9. They're watching below... a cat is getting beat up by a dog.
  10. I've run dry; what do you think it could be?

They were waiting patiently to have their picture taken....

might they be thinking they are on the wings of a larger bird, hoping for a ride?

Craver: If you really figure this out it will answer the question as to why they all land in the same tree and leave at the same time. What symetry in the shot, you can be proud of the result.

11-they hunt in flocks.
12- to generate more heat
13- to make a bakers dozen.

i don't know, but, as soon as our grapes are ripe they will be at our house.

I like the way they are about the same distance apart from each other. Maybe this is a secret form of telecommunications. Their plan? Tune in next week. ;-)

They certainly were, Ramblingwoods! I had just tried (unsuccessfully) to get some close pics of local egrets. My first subjects were considerably more skittish.

They're in for a long wait Mr. Dave! Thanks for the comment. :-)

We were out running errands at the time, Fishinig Guy. I'm especially grateful for my wife's patience, understanding, and even encouragement, when I ask her to pull over for a shot like this.

Wow Imac! I never counted, but you're right; there are thirteen on each arm and one on the center cap.

Oooh, take pics nAncY. I love your photography.

Same time, same channel EG. Unless of course, it really is secret. In which case, they won't divulge, regardless of who tunes in. Aah, the secret society of starlings, how they've solemnly sworn to sustain their silence.

Look how they are all so evenly spaced.... just enough room for a wingspan if they all decide to leave at once.

peer pressure.

what a nifty picture though. i like how you've framed it.

I think they are a measuring stick, I am too amazed at the uniformity. the wingspan thing is inventive!

Sharp observation Shammy!

Well uh, Lime... (doing my very best Elvis voice) thankyouverymuch.

Measuring stick is good, Mommanator. Yeah, about the wingspan thing, it makes me wonder... what if they're doing aerial military maneuvers? I'd hate to have the car below that they're doing target practice on today.

Great shot! I love the lines in this picture. Very cool.

Thanks for your kind words on my blog. I really appreciate it. And, yes, I did take that picture in my post. You'll usually find me with a camera hanging from my neck. :)

That was a good one Sandman. You know, instead of a movie night, once we just went through a bunch of Pixar shorts instead. It was loads of fun.

So glad you like it David! Thanks for the mention at your spot. That made my day. :-)

So nice of you to drop in, Maggie May. Yeah, and on that day, my wife was driving, too. That gave me more opportunities to look around.

Thank you Alyson. I meant what I said; I'll keep you in prayer this weekend, okay?

Denise, that is a generous compliment. David's POTD is a blogger's treasure. Would it be too much to accept these riches from you as well? I humbly thank you.
