butterscotch

[Special thanks to Londine, who saw when I took this picture and urged me to post it. Londine is a faithful volunteer at the local food pantry. She is the kind of person you can always count on, and her work is deeply appreciated.]

.

At first blush, one might guess that this is a Red-tailed Hawk. But a more careful observation leads me to the conclusion that it must be an exceptionally large Butterscotch Finch. It is identified by the color in the background. They are very rare. ;-)

.

Hey, someone took pictures of ME for a change!! I had an ultrasound, and they took a few dozen images of my gizzards. One part of the hospital was backed up, so they found room for me in... Maternity. Yes, maternity. After I was done, the technician escorted me back out to the waiting room, and I caught the eyes of an expectant couple. I patted my belly and said, "It's a boy."

.

My wife chuckled and muttered, "You're so embarrassing." (big grin)

This is a great picture of a Butterscotch Finch. This is the first picture I've seen of this bird. It sounds as if you had an adventure with your ultrasound.

Hello Craver,

Well I can easily see how you two followers fell for this mis-identification! Rookie mistake I guess.

This is clearly a Yellow Footed-Brown Capped-hookbilled chicken hawk!

He has obviously eating the poor chicken before you got around to shooting the photo!

Nice capture though, if you don't count cutting his tail out of the frame.

LOL Glad to help any time.

Your old friend Craig Glenn

That is a great compliment, Chris!

Oh, you like the "Butterscotch Finch," George? Yessir, every once-in-a-while, I find the most unbelievable things. (lol)

Aah, a Yellow-footed Brown-capped Hookbilled Chicken Hawk?? Sure... I see it now. Craig, you are a genius. Nice to see you again, my friend!

that'd be funny if butterscotch showed up on your ultra sound!

You are SO wrong Craver, anyone with half a mind can see by the patterns this is a sparrow. Maybe being prgnant is affecting your mind? LOL!! LOL!!

Nice shot BTW. :)

Congrats Craver! Will you name this boy after the bird? Butterscotch or Chicken Hawk.

Tee hee. You remind me of my husband. He'd say something like "It's a boy." Yep, he sure would.

That's the first butterscotch finch I have ever seen! WOW!

How exciting your having a boy!! :-)
Your comment on my blog about cemeteries near churches. All the old churches around here have cemeteries near them.

I would think any couple in the maternity ward would need someone like you to give them a smile Craver. You are so funny my friend.

Lovely photo of the Butterscotch Finch. Never seen his kind before.

Thanks also for stopping by and wishing me a happy birthday the other day. I appreciated your sweet comments very much.

That's really twisted, Mr. Dave. (I wish I had thought of it.)

Blasted hormonal changes! Thanks Joan. I knew I could count on you to hold me accountable.

Good question Gaelyn. Probably just "Junior."

Glad I could razzle-dazzle you with my birding skills, EG. Hats off to your hubby. He sounds to me like a man of genius and exceptional wit. And I say that with total humility. ;-)

Happyone and Shammy, I don't have a problem with churches having their own cemetery plots, but if I were to plan such a thing, I'd make it a little more subtle. I don't want people thinking primarily about graves when they come together for worship and ministry. Maybe it's just a cultural thing that I am not accustomed to.

I am okay, Mommanator. The results were good, and I do not have an ulcer or pancreatitis. Just another hospital bill, but we'll take that over the former, right?

Denise, that family in the maternity ward had the warmest smiles! I was blessed to see those happy grins.

I'm always happy to pass along my birding expertise to the newer generation, Bird Girl.

You know what? I think my wife has come to expect things like this, and she would probably be concerned if I started behaving normally.

Yes, good news Lime! The doctor's best guess is that I had food poisoning, and it is all over now.

Craver: Craig hit this ID right on, you need to study the bird more before you guess. LOL

I didn't mean She's right about the cemeteries.
I meant She's right about you being so embarrassing!
See what I mean?
DUH!

Okay Fishing Guy; I'll hit the books. Perhaps I should begin by studying The Far Side cartoons?? ;-)

Right. Got it. But Shammy, if I didn't embarrass my Mrs, she wouldn't know what to do with herself. Besides, she's so cute when she says, "I'm NOT with him!"
