bridges

bridges

April 30, 2014

This week's challenge is bridges; it was Lew's choice.  Check out my pals for their interpretations on this theme: Womtig, Fishing Guy, Katney, Imac, Lew, and Christine Anne.

Short and sweet today, because I do not have a lot of bridges.  I wish I had taken more shots of this bridge. A coworker and I drove into Saint Louis for a conference in January.  He was driving, so I guess that makes me "shot"gun. (wink)  This looks to me like a Bowstring Truss, but I am not exactly sure.  I was not paying much attention to what particular type of truss bridge we came across, but only that it appeared that the setting sun got caught in an iron net.  Firing into the sun made it look darker than it was, but this was only thirty-five seconds after the other pic I'm showing below.

This second shot was taken from a bridge as we crossed the Mississippi River into Saint Louis.  I was captivated by the colors, and also by the way the Arch framed some of the buildings behind it.

It was a good thing that Rob (the driver) is a fellow photographer and former Pentaxian*, because I HAD TO OPEN THE WINDOW to get the second shot.  This was during a Polar Vortex on January 6, when the temps were so frigid...

It was so cold that lawyers had their hands in their own pockets.

It was so cold that even the ice cubes had goose bumps. Brrrr... Man, it was cold!

It was so cold that a flasher got arrested for describing himself to women.

It was so cold that snowmen were hitchhiking to Florida.  I mean to tell you, it was cold!!  How cold?

It was so cold I was shivering like a mobster in a tax office.

Do you think I'm exaggerating?  ...The local pet store was selling puppies, kittens... and penguins!

*A Pentaxian is a photographer who uses a Pentax camera.

Your one-liners are priceless. I love both your bridges; maybe one day I'll get down to St. Louis to see them for myself.

You seem to spend a lot of time looking west AND capturing great sunsets for us! Perfect framing of the arch and St. Louis.

Fine capture of the sun filled bridge, Craver.
