now why are you taking a picture of that

Now, why are you taking a picture of that?

June 25, 2014

This week's challenge selection is Now, why are you taking a picture of that? by Katney.  Check out my pals for their interpretations on this theme: Fishing Guy, Katney, Imac, Lew, and Christine Anne.

We've all been there, right?  You see something that you're compelled to photograph--perhaps something that is not a traditional subject.  Sometimes, it's the colors that catch your eye, or perhaps a reflection, sparkle, composition, unusual angle...  Oh heck!  Who needs an excuse?!  Sometimes a fella just feels like he has to shoot something!  I digress.  The point is, that we sometimes get a quizzical reaction from people when we snap our pics.  They're wondering, now why are you taking a picture of that? The header is a setup I created where I borrowed an ant from his work on the peonies in my front yard. I used a thin strand of wire to hold my "model" in place for the portrait shoot.  "Alright Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."

I hope you appreciate that I did my footwork for this photo collection:

My daughter's new boots after she frolicked through the flowers... on moist terrain.

A bride's shoe.  It reminds me of Cinderella.

A horde of teenagers stormed my house.

It looked like I was taking a picture of the fence in the dark.  But I focused manually and used the flash to catch a lightning bug.

This kite fooled me into thinking it was a hovering bird of prey.

This shot had me looking like I was aiming at the siding of my own house.  My neighbors must think I'm loony!

Camera on the ground - in front of a car's headlights - in the rain.  Yep; that's normal.

Addendum:  With these comments I've heard about the ant, I should tell you that I returned this ant unharmed to his work in the flowers.  :-)

Lassoing ants! That has got to be a first for headers anywhere! Great bunch of closeups you have here!

So glad no ants were harmed in the making of this blog post. What is it with spiders this week, with you and Tom? (Cool, though!) I especially love the bride's shoe (what girl doesn't like shoes??) and the lightning bug. I have a neighbor who watches me take pictures in my back yard veggie garden all summer long!

I didn't even know that was an ant until you said it. Wow is that ever a close up.

Oh, the extent to which we go to get an unique photo. You did very well with all of these. I'm glad no ant was harmed in getting your photo.

My grandson reminded us in a discussion of our previous "Cousin Camp" locations that when we camped at the cabin in Idaho we went on a hike and there were ants and I took a picture of them.

I do believe I did get the "What are you doing?" question on that one.

Nice closeups, but I prefer not to get quite so close to some of your subjects.

That kite had me too fooled. For a minute I thought that it got entangled in some wire.
