the dark side
October 29, 2014
This week's challenge selection is
the dark side by Katney. Check out my pals for their interpretations on this theme:
Fishing Guy,
Katney,
Imac,
Lew, and
Christine Anne.
Idyllic prep for this theme would be to get together with some friends who do the Star Wars thing, but I have not found an opportunity to see them in full gear at one of their philanthropic events. With permission, I will share the following image from
Matthew Crowley. He is a fine art photographer in the area, and I see a lot of his work on Facebook.

There can be some interesting ideas if we do a figurative interpretation of the theme, but let's go literal this week, and see what we can find in low light situations.
|
bonfire on a cool night |
|
cool black cat with luminescent eyes |
|
ever so sphynx-like guard at the top of the stairs |
|
firefly... I preset the focus manually, and used the flash for this one |
|
a band covered a famous 80's ballad, and the crowd lit cell phones instead of lighters |
|
taken with flash, of course, but I used a flashlight to get in focus |
|
you can't see the dark side of the moon, but you know it's there |
|
quiet time in the chapel before going to the reception |
|
my favorite thing to shoot with... the arc reactor is peeled off now |
|
your best chance at a sharp b-day image is before she tries to extinguish the candles |

My header this week is a low key image of my dog, Bear. I do not remember where the light came from for that particular shot (probably the top of the stairs), but I had the ISO boosted way up to 3200. I pasted the histogram below, because that ultra-low reading is unusually biased to the dark side. Normally, we delete a pic that registers that low on the histogram.

Beautiful sunrise or is it a sunset.

I like all of your photos of the dark side. You did a great job on all of them. Low light photography is not easy.
Indeed, great shot of bear! Clear ad enough light to se that she's watching.
I agree, Bear's low light portrait is great. In fact you have a delightful selection in the post.
Fun set of photos Craver, nicely done.
