wireless weekend

Midway through Sunday's sermon, we lost power. I was manning the sound booth. We had zero audio reinforcement, no PowerPoint slides for sermon notes or for the words to the songs, and the videographer could not record the rest of the day's service for (local cable) television.

.

Smoothly, the pastor said, "Well, I'll just have to project." The side doors were propped wide open and provided sufficient light to see each other. We had communion without a glitch, and for the closing song, they switched up to a familiar hymn, that most people know by heart.

.

How nice that in a day when barely anything can be done without computers or at least electricity, that we were able to worship "unplugged."

.

Just for fun, after church I recommended that if this ever happens again, we use our wireless microphones.

and i bet ya' that was probably one of the best services you guy's ever had.. God always finds a way to take something bad and make good out of it.. How 'bout doin' an old fashion tent meeting service in your parking lot or church yard? I've seen churches do that just to break out of the monotony of a regular service. Wireless?? you're beginning to sound like someone I else I know!! Hmmm...

lol, going with the flow in a situation like that is always the best idea.

Actually Mr. Dave, a couple of years ago, we held outside services in the summer... but we did use audio reinforcement for that.

Lime, it was not just the pastor, but a couple of the music people whose quick thinking made for smooth transitions.

Thanks nAncY. I'm just happy to report that I did not panic. :-)

Craver: We remeber the old days when you sang out of a book and the only entertainment was the choir.

what is church? a gathering of folk to worship & praise! They didnt have microphones nor electricty in Jesus day, but the message came thru loud and clear!

Cool story. A few years ago we lost electricity for a few days. It's amazing what you can do without being plugged in. Unfortunately the electricity came back on and now I can't remember what all those things are. ;-)

Oh Imac, you and your UFO comments are out of this world.

Fishing Guy and Mommanator, it is my goal as an audio technician to be "invisible." The better we do our jobs, the less we are noticed. In fact, people usually notice us when something goes wrong.

It would probably be a good idea EG to do a totally "unplugged" event every once in a while.

Doors open, piano playing, voices singing out - reminds me of revival days with my Grandparents. :)
Those unplugged days were memory making.
