Today's Flowers

angular ensemble

I appreciate your patience as I experiment with different ideas here. Just these last few days, we had turbid trees, Shakespearean Hokey Pokey, and who knows what else you'll find in upcoming weeks!

.

Inspired by the photo in LL Barkat's post Random Acts of Poetry, I set out with my camera to intentionally procure angled shots. As soon as I got home, I got right to work with these flowers. One of my neighbors stared as I lay prostrate for a few snapshots.

Today's Flowers

Bee happy!
The shimmering of the petals is fun to look at, but I noticed for the first time that these flowers look like they have a tiny blossom withing a blossom. Apparently, the bee likes that feature. Here, I found particular enjoyment with the shadows inside the flower's cup. This exuberant flower seems to be oblivious to its fate. Notice the withered petals on the far left. Speaking of impending doom, this was one solitary bright spot in an area that was filled with weeds. I had the task of clearing two patches for some new plants. The flower is in (ahem) in a better place, now.

Today's Flowers

Nothin' special. Just a simple little purple flower. I like purple. I hope it doesn't bug you. ;-)

Today's Flowers

buds light
I have seen it a few times where a picture was taken from a low perspective, that included a flower in the foreground, and a picturesque sky for a backdrop. I couldn't get the exact shot I hoped for when I began crawling into these flowers, but I like them anyway, and I hope you do, too.

Today's Flowers

bésame mucho
My first thought, when I saw this flower was that it looks like it's whistling.

where does the music come from?

it is the flower

Still thinking about this puckering posture... Could it be kissing the sunlight? Yup, I think so. Hey look! And here, the sun smooched on an apple, too!!

Today's Flowers

think pink

.

One of my sons was about four years old when somebody asked him what his favorite color was. He pondered briefly, then said, "pink."

.

Stifling a gasp, I did not react. Colors are gender-neutral, right? It's just a color; it doesn't mean anything. (ears getting warm) I hope he doesn't see anybody else get freaked out over nothing, and think he's done something wrong. (palms sweating) If anyone picks on him over this, I'll have to serve up a knuckle-sandwich... well, not really, but I'd at least find a civil, Christian way to protect my little boy from stupid hyenas... In that moment or two of silence, dozens of thoughts raced through my head, and then he spoke again.

.

"Dark pink." He said the words slowly and thoughtfully.

.

Dark. Hmmm... dark is good. Whew, what a relief! If anybody starts to make fun, I can correct them. No, no, no--not any girly pink; DARK pink! (insert manly grunt here)

.

Today's flowers are pink, and I like them. Yeah? (puffing up chest) What of it!

Today's Flowers

There's a new feature that my friend Luiz Santilli Jr. is doing. It's called Today's Flowers. Check it out. These flowers are from a friend's front yard. I was waiting for the carpool, and I had the camera with me and... you know how it goes, right?
